Head Spa Careers in DC: How One Luxury Salon Role Lets You Build a Clientele
Inside the Head Spa Technician role at Mane Street Georgetown, where the first guest you care for can become the beginning of your own clientele
Most of what gets written about salons hiring in Georgetown is meant for stylists who already have a book, and for good reason. A licensed stylist with loyal guests is ready for the chair on the first day. This industry has always had a second way in, though, and it begins at the shampoo bowl. A head spa career in DC starts there, with a guest who came in for their scalp and leaves with a ritual they want to come back to. At Mane Street Georgetown, we are opening that way in with a salon job that needs no license to begin, built around Davines HeadSpa, where the guests who return for you are yours to keep.
Mane Street Georgetown is launching Georgetown’s first ever headspa experience. With training from Davines and its NaturalTech line, this new position is shaped and trained by leaders in the industry and our region.

What a Head Spa Career in DC Looks Like
Most guests who sit down for a head spa want two things: an hour that belongs entirely to them, and a scalp that feels better leaving than arriving. Davines HeadSpa, a scalp ritual rooted in Korean tradition, answers both, and every visit begins with a conversation.
You start by listening to client issues or concerns, and looking closely at the scalp. From there the ritual moves depending on the need of each clients scalp and hair. One option is moving through a clay detox blended with the right Naturaltech shampoo, a cleansing massage, a treatment mask that processes under a warm towel, and a leave-in chosen for that guest alone. Five signature massages are woven through the sequence. Everything is performed within the scope permitted for the position, and nothing about it is hurried.
That last detail matters more than it might seem, because the pace of the ritual is what turns a first visit into a relationship.
How a Clientele Grows From the Scalp
Scalp care rewards consistency. The Davines Naturaltech line spans ten families, from Calming for a scalp that runs sensitive, to Rebalancing for one that tends to produce more oil. Once a guest finds their family, the in-salon ritual pairs with an at-home routine, and their care settles into a rhythm.
With every stylist at Mane Street Georgetown trained in the Headspa service, the person who performed that first ritual becomes the one the guest trusts to adjust it, explain what comes next, and make their next reservation before they leave. In many salons, a new team member waits years for guests who ask for them by name. Here, that can begin with your first HeadSpa guest. HeadSpa is meant for everyone, so the clients who find their way to you will be as varied as the city.
A rhythm like that depends on someone who knows the line deeply, which is what this role is designed to grow.
Becoming Our Go-To Naturaltech Expert
We are asking this person to take genuine ownership of a category, not only to perform a service. Training covers our HeadSpa protocols, the full Naturaltech line, and the judgment of matching each scalp to the right pathway. Education continues as Davines introduces new products and protocols, so your knowledge keeps pace with the category you lead.

In time, guests will ask for you, and so will the stylists. That expertise reaches into our Davines Naturaltech treatments at Mane Street Georgetown, including Naturaltech Tailoring, a customized herbal infusion. When a colorist wants a second opinion on a guest’s scalp, you will be the person they turn to.
Knowing the scalp is one half of the education here. The other half comes from the work happening around you every day.
Learning the Salon From the Inside
Shampooing guests, assisting stylists, resetting stations, restocking. That work is often treated as what comes before a career. Here, it is part of the career itself.
Working beside the stylists on our Mane Street Georgetown team, you will see how a consultation unfolds and how a recommendation at the end becomes something a guest is glad to hear rather than a pitch. You will also learn why the next reservation is made before a guest walks out the door.
Kimberly Christoph, our founder and a master colorist with more than two decades behind the chair, opened Mane Street because she wanted a salon that takes professional development as seriously as the guest experience.
Where a Head Spa Career in DC Can Lead
A head spa career in DC can be complete in itself. Some people find their calling in scalp care and build a full clientele around it. For anyone who holds a cosmetology license, or decides to pursue one, the role can grow into blowouts, haircuts, and other services as legally permitted and as skill and clientele develop.
A guest who first meets you at the HeadSpa may one day reserve a professional blowout at Mane Street Georgetown with you as well. That continuity is the quiet advantage of beginning here: the relationships you build now carry forward into whatever your work becomes.

Who Thrives in This Role
Salons hiring in Georgetown often starts with what a candidate has already done. We are more interested in what you bring into the room, and the person we hope to meet will likely recognize themselves here:
- Genuine curiosity about scalp health, hair care, and wellness
- Warmth with guests and a natural instinct for hospitality
- Excitement to learn Naturaltech deeply and become the person others ask
- Interest in a future cosmetology license, warmly welcomed though never required to apply
